If you are someone who has a tendency to procrastinate, learn to overcome it by breaking down the task into the most tiny, manageable component needed to stop you from stalling out.

 

Success Starts with Tiny Steps

 

Like eating a pie, you'd never think about trying to shove the whole pie into your mouth without first taking a slice, and then after that a bite. Even with the bite you don't just swallow it whole, you chew it until you can swallow it.

The same with procrastination.

Procrastination often has to do with the size of step you are trying to take, which is often too large.

Smaller than Small.

 

If you find that you are stalling out, make the step even smaller. Keep backing up until you can easily do ONE thing. Only then do you give yourself permission to take the next ONE step.

That step might be to put the paper clip back where it belongs, move one piece of paper off your desk, send a text, or focus on your breathing, all of which helps you to stay present in the moment. 

The more stressed and overwhelmed you are, the smaller the step will need to be.

 

No Judgement 

Keep repeating this process because it will help to ensure that the task will be completed in a timely manner and to the best of your ability.

Don't criticize yourself for taking small steps. Stay impartial about your progress and focus on taking one step at a time. Judging yourself will help to shut your brain down and hinder your progress, so stop being your worst critic and love yourself out of the mess.

 

Repeat

Once you complete your tiny step, take another, and then another. The goal is to successfully complete the first step before moving on to the next as this will help your brain to not be overwhelmed.

This also allows you to keep working towards your goal. Make sure to create a realistic timeline for each of the smaller goals that does not overwhelm you.

Completing the task on time can be ensured by taking small steps and celebrating each success before moving on to the next.
